ABOUT THE AUTHOR

I am a writer and media consultant who lives in Mumbai, India, and Gold Coast, Australia.

My passion for social equality and fair treatment of all people led me to explore gender, sexuality, equal rights and other cultural issues for publications across the world, alongside interviewing inspiring people. A graduate in BA Honours in English from Jesus and Mary College, Delhi University, where I topped my batch, I subsequently completed my Master’s in English from Mumbai University with a focus on gender and postcolonial literature. I am recognized for my incisive journalism and social commentary, and was awarded the Laadli Media Award for gender-sensitive writing in 2013-4.

Over the years, particularly since I began working on this project in 2017, I have come to be seen as a public intellectual in the gender, sexuality, sociocultural and gender violence spaces. I’ve spoken on shows on CNN News18, NDTV, Times Now, Mirror Now, etc; been interviewed by publications such as Mumbai Mirror, Mid-Day, Outlook, TheWire.in, DNA, iDiva.com, Free Press Journal, SheThePeople.tv and Grazia; and spoken at events including the Online Safety Summit supported by UN Women, Firstpost’s #MeToo Conversations and FICCI FLO’s Safety at Workplace panel. In an attempt to outsource the blowing of my own trumpet, I quote the HarperCollins’ press release: “As the growing conversation about sexual violence is getting more meaningful and nuanced, Kaushal is one of the voices at its forefront in India.” In 2018, I was awarded a Femina Women Super Achiever Award.

HarperCollins, that published Why Men Rape: An Indian Undercover Investigation, is also publishing my second book, a work of narrative nonfiction in the human-rights and gender-justice space.
